James: Living Faith
A Sunday school series in James including family podcasts.
You get home to find a thick envelope lying on the doormat. You tear it open and find a letter from James, Jesus’ brother. Wow! This is exciting! You gather the whole church, young and old to hear what James has to say…
James wrote to Christians scattered everywhere, being persecuted for following Jesus. They were tempted to hide their faith. When things are tough, it seems easier to blend in than to stand out and be different. But James calls Christians both then and now to live out their faith, trusting God whatever we face.
Resources Showcase
Watch this showcase to find out more about James: Living Faith which includes some top tips on how to teach James to children.
James: Living Faith takes children through James’ letter in seven jam-packed sessions, including teaching time, all-age talks, games, activities, crafts, questions and something for churches to give parents to keep the conversation going at home. James packs his letter with engaging real-life pictures; the foolishness of ignoring what you see in a mirror, the fiery danger of the tongue, the patience of a farmer. Using these illustrations, we hope these lessons will help children to see the beauty of a living faith, grasping the difference it can make to themselves and to others.
James’ letter isn’t just about behaving better – it helps us all to understand why God wants us to live for him and to believe that his ways are best.
If you only have space for a six-week series, we suggest leaving out the last session so that you finish with waiting for Jesus to return.
A brand new series of family podcast episodes will accompany each lesson – they’ll go live in January 2026.
Our friends at DumbRocks have written a song (called Living Faith) to accompany this series. There is a lyric video to help you learn the words too. Check it out at the section below, and you can also download it from the download section below if you do not have wifi capability where you want to show it.
Teaching an epistle to children may be harder than teaching narrative, but it has great value. We recommend teaching this series after some foundations have been laid, perhaps later in the academic year when your group has settled. James wrote to people who had already heard the gospel, challenging them to live it out. We recommend using this series when most children in your group have heard the gospel explained and are ready for this challenge.
