The Adventure of Christmas
The first Christmas was an adventure like no other!
Join Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds and the Wise Men as they embark on their own adventures.
In this seasonal series you will find a Christmas buffet of resource treats. The four flexible sessions have been written so that you can fill your plate with what you and your church family need this Christmas.
Each lesson document contains lesson plans for under 7’s and over 8’s, a script for a kids slot and an outline for an ‘All Welcome’ service based on the same content.
You can use the lesson plans as a Sunday School series or in an after-school outreach program during Advent. In either setting, the optional kids slot scripts will help you tell the Bible story.
Use the ‘All Welcome’ service outlines as the basis for services suitable for everyone – young and old, church family and visitors alike.
You could even combine elements from different weeks to create your own whole-Christmas-story extravaganza (e.g. a Christmas festival service or outdoor Nativity Adventure).
However you use this material, send the Family Adventure booklet home with families afterwards so they can continue the conversations at home.
The Wise Men’s Adventure All-welcome Service
A fun and interactive all-age service picking up on the Wise Men’s adventure. A great resource for a family carol service or maybe even Christmas Day.
The Adventure of Christmas Community Walk Through
This is an interactive and engaging Christmas event for the whole community to explore the adventure of the first Christmas in a hands-on way, perhaps run early in December so that guests can be invited to Christmas services in the following weeks.
No Words to Explain
It’s CHRISTMAS! Nearly. Steady on. Whoa there! Hold your jingling horses. We kick of our Pre-Christmas adventure with Zechariah, Elizabeth and an Angel, from Luke 1:5-24. And fun facts about very weird animals who react very strangely in a crisis.
Mary’s Adventure
We continue our Christmas adventure with Mary and the return of the Angel. God is ripping up Mary’s wedding plans – what a relief that no-one will be throwing shoes at her! (Oh, that’s one of the fun facts about wedding. I know. Jam? No.)
That’s a Nice Name
The Christmas adventure continues with Joseph and the Angel – and a name that’s also a job title. But what even is a cooper, a fletcher and a whitesmith? And why does a cooper need a hooper?
The Shepherd’s Adventure
What’s just so exciting, you just can’t keep it in?! And does it involve gherkins? Things get weird pretty fast with Amy as special guest with Ed and Jam. But there are a load of fun facts before we get onto the hillside and hang out with the shepherds in Luke 2:8-18. Now there’s something to shout about.
Wise Men’s Adventure
How do you behave in front of a king or a queen? And what’s the secret message of the Queen’s handbag? The Wise Men come from the East and have to work out what they’re going to do in front of the king in Matthew 2.
